Outdoors
In Grand Rivers playing outside is one of our favorite things to do.
Besides all of the activity on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, the fun in the great
outdoors includes Land Between the Lakes and trails for hiking, biking and running, scenic
drives, picnic areas, nearby horseback riding, or just relaxing on a
park bench or the jetty and watching the world go by.

Wildlife Viewing
Land
Between the Lakes
800-LBL-7077
LBL offers wildlife viewing year-round but
different species may be more viewable at certain times of the
year. Since wild creatures are more active at dawn and dusk,
these are the best times to watch wildlife. Native wildlife
includes coyotes, deer, rabbit, squirrels, raccoons, American
bison, elk, beaver and more.
In winter watch for the bald eagles and the American White
Pelicans. These gigantic pelicans can have a wingspan of over
nine feet and weigh up to twenty pounds.
In early spring the Osprey returns to build nests and hatch
their young. Spring time blooms with color along with the
wildlife, as the redbud trees and wildflowers pop out along the
Trace. Migratory songbirds also return to LBL in the spring.
Also, look for wild Turkeys along the Trace and new bison claves
in the Elk and Bison Prairie. Look in late May the backwater
streams at Energy Lake for beavers and their dams. June viewing
includes hummingbirds (throughout the summer season) and newborn
deer fawns. Did you know that deer fawns have no scent as a
protection from predators who track by smell? Summer wildlife
includes LBL’s wild herd of Fallow Deer, colorful wildflowers
and butterflies. Fall viewing highlights include the Elk rut and
the spectacular fall colors.
