On Saturday, April 17, Grand Rivers will pay honor to our
famous son Stanley Walker with the second annual Stanley
Walker Day. It's his day and he got to pick how he wanted
to celebrate. Of course he wants to play music, but he
also wants to share his day with Kosair Charities.
Join us as Stanley
Walker and friends Jam for Kosair Charities. It will
take place on Saturday, April 17 at 1:00p.m. at the Badgett
Playhouse. Everyone’s asked to come celebrate Stanley Walker
AND help make a difference in children’s lives.
The event is free but, of
course, all attendants will have the honor of donating
to Kosair Charities.
Kosair gives children what they ALL deserve to have – a
chance to have a long, happy, and fulfilling life.
Once upon a time Stanley
Walker was a Kosair Kid. As a child, he spent
almost one year of his life in Kosairs Hospital and he credits
them with saving his life. Kosair's sucess story with
Stanley made it possible for him to grow up and purse his
dream of music.
Stanley Walker grew up
listening to the Grand Ole Opry and dreaming of performing
there. In 1969 Stanley's dreams came when he
played behind Jean Shepard.
Stanley Walker played lead
guitar for Ray Smith and the Rock and Roll Boys from 1956 to
1969. He had appearances on Hee Haw, solo
recordings, and even played with artists such as Roy Clark,
Lefty Frizzell, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Stanley Walker was inducted
into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in 2008.
100% of the proceeds of this
event will go to Kosair Charities. Our generous
sponsors are the ones that make this possible. Thank you
to the Badgett Playhouse Theater
for use of the theater and thank you to WCCK Radio for
t-shirts and promotions.
